description Pierce County Courthouse Overview
The Pierce County Courthouse in Tacoma, Washington, is also known as the County-City Building, a civic complex completed in 1959 at 930 Tacoma Avenue South. Designed by A. Gordon Lumm, it combines an 11-story tower with lower wings containing courtrooms, county offices, and law-enforcement functions. The building replaced Tacoma's 1893 Romanesque courthouse, which was demolished after deterioration and earthquake damage.
It serves county and city operations as well as courts.
