At first, Souta thinks nothing of the chance encounter and provides the boy with food and clothing.
However, to his surprise, the boy suddenly sprouts a furry pair of ears and a tail! Souta soon learns that the nameless boy is actually the rumored shapeshifting tanuki that has been inhabiting Kagawa for many years.
help Poco's Udon World FAQ
Is Poco actually a human child in Poco's Udon World?
Poco is a tanuki who takes the form of a small human boy after Souta Tawara returns to his family's closed udon shop. His ears and tail reappear when his disguise slips, forcing Souta to protect his secret.
Why does Souta return to Kagawa instead of staying in Tokyo?
Souta returns after his father's death and initially plans to settle the family's affairs rather than reopen the restaurant. Caring for Poco makes him reconsider his strained relationship with his father, his hometown, and the life he built in Tokyo.
Does the series focus on cooking udon?
Udon is an important symbol of Souta's family and Kagawa's regional identity, but the series is not primarily a cooking procedural. Its main story concerns grief, temporary parenthood, and Souta's bond with Poco.
Is Poco's Udon World similar to Barakamon?
Both series follow an adult leaving urban pressures behind and forming relationships in a close regional community. Poco's Udon World adds a supernatural parent-child bond, while Barakamon centers on calligrapher Seishu Handa and the residents of the Goto Islands.
