description Point Bolivar Light Overview
Point Bolivar Light was a lighthouse on the Bolivar Peninsula in Texas, near Galveston. Built in 1872, it served as a navigational aid for vessels approaching the Galveston area and the surrounding Gulf of Mexico waters. The structure is particularly remembered for sheltering at least 125 people during the 1900 Galveston hurricane, when the storm destroyed much of the nearby settlement.
