Polesian Lowland

description Polesian Lowland Overview

The Polesian Lowland, also called Polesie, is a broad, mostly flat lowland extending across parts of Belarus, Ukraine, and Poland. It contains extensive wetlands, peatlands, forests, lakes, and slow-flowing rivers formed on poorly drained glacial and alluvial terrain. The region is important for wetland ecology, floodplain habitats, forestry, and agriculture, although drainage and land conversion have altered many areas. Its largest river systems include the Pripyat and Bug.
