Powell Butte is an extinct volcanic cinder cone in southeast Portland, Oregon, rising above the surrounding terrain as part of the Boring Lava Field, a collection of volcanic vents distributed across the greater Portland metropolitan area. The butte is the centerpiece of Powell Butte Nature Preserve, a roughly 612-acre natural area managed by Portland Parks & Recreation featuring meadowland, forest trails, and panoramic views of the surrounding region. The underlying geology consists of basaltic lava flows characteristic of the Boring Volcanic Field.
