PrimaLoft Gold

PrimaLoft Gold uses fine synthetic fibers that absorb much less water than untreated down and continue trapping air when damp. That makes it popular in jackets, gloves, and sleeping gear intended for wet or changeable conditions.

Down normally offers excellent warmth for its weight and compresses very efficiently, but moisture can make its clusters collapse unless they are carefully protected. PrimaLoft Gold generally dries faster and handles damp conditions better, although equivalent synthetic insulation can be bulkier.

Cross Core versions combine PrimaLoft fibers with aerogel technology to improve warmth without a comparable increase in weight. PrimaLoft has also produced Gold Cross Core insulation using 90 percent post-consumer recycled material.

No, warmth depends heavily on how many grams of insulation the manufacturer places in each square meter and where it is distributed. A lightweight 40 g/m² jacket and a 100 g/m² insulated parka can therefore perform very differently despite carrying the same PrimaLoft Gold name.
