Quintessa is located in the Rutherford appellation of Napa Valley, California, along the eastern hills of the valley. The estate was founded in 1989 and its vineyards span a diverse landscape of rolling hills, a lake, and varied soil types.

Quintessa is a Bordeaux-style blend primarily composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller portions of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdt depending on the vintage. All grapes are grown on the estate's biodynamically farmed vineyard.

Yes, Quintessa's estate vineyards are certified biodynamic, incorporating practices such as compost preparations, cover crops, and integration of livestock into the vineyard ecosystem. The winery converts these biodynamic grapes into wine without the use of cultured yeasts in fermentation.

Quintessa is owned by the Agustin and Valeria Huneeus family, who founded the estate in 1989. The Huneeus family also has interests in other wine properties, but Quintessa remains their flagship Napa Valley estate.
