Raining in the Mountain

Raining in the Mountain follows a corrupt court official and several martial artists who gather at a remote Buddhist monastery. They are drawn into a contest involving a priceless Buddhist scroll.

King Hu directed the film. He was a major figure in wuxia cinema, known for choreographing elegant swordplay and using movement, landscape, and editing as part of the action.

Raining in the Mountain was released in 1979. Although it is a Hong Kong wuxia production, much of the film was shot in South Korea.

It is a slow-burning wuxia mystery built around monastery politics, deception, and carefully staged combat. The film emphasizes atmosphere and strategy as much as physical fighting.
