While Ralph McQuarrie is a legend in science fiction, he did not work on the original *Star Trek* series. However, he was famously hired as a concept artist for the aborted 1970s *Star Trek: Planet of the Titans* film, where he helped design early visual concepts. His most prominent film work remains firmly tied to the *Star Wars* franchise and movies like *Close Encounters of the Third Kind*.
