Red Kap Mechanic Coverall

The coveralls are constructed using a highly durable, heavy-duty 100% cotton twill fabric. This material is specifically chosen for its breathability and its ability to withstand the demanding, dirty environments of automotive and industrial work. The rugged cotton is also treated to resist staining and shrinking during industrial washes.

The standard Red Kap Mechanic Coverall is not inherently flame resistant, as it is designed primarily for standard garage and industrial maintenance tasks. However, Red Kap does manufacture separate, specialized lines of coveralls that are explicitly FR-rated and meet NFPA 2112 safety standards for hazardous environments. Always check the specific product tags before working around open flames or high-voltage arcs.

These heavy-duty cotton coveralls can be washed in a standard washing machine using warm water and tumble-dried on a medium heat setting. Red Kap treats the fabric with a Touchtex finish to help release heavy automotive grease, oil, and grime more easily than untreated cotton. Using industrial-strength liquid detergents is recommended for the toughest mechanical stains.

Because they are made from 100% cotton twill, some minor shrinkage can occur after the first few high-heat washes. However, Red Kap specifically treats the fabric with a durable finish to minimize shrinking and color fading. To prevent excessive shrinkage, it is best to dry them on a tumble-dry low setting.
