REP Weightlifting Sandbags

Clean play sand is the most common filler for REP sandbags, though pea gravel or rubber crumb can also be used to achieve different densities and resistance profiles. Many lifters use heavy-duty plastic dry bags or ziplock bags inside the outer shell to create incremental weight plates and prevent leaks during aggressive movements.

REP constructs their sandbags from durable reinforced nylon or Cordura-type fabric with double-stitched seams specifically designed to handle dropping, slamming, and dragging. A rubber stall mat or grass surface is still recommended for repeated high-impact drops, as abrasive concrete can eventually wear through even heavy-duty fabric.

Sandbags excel at functional movements like shouldering, loaded carries, bear-hug squats, sandbag cleans, and rotational lunges that engage the core and stabilizer muscles differently than a rigid barbell. The shifting fill material forces the body to constantly adjust, making even moderate-weight carries feel significantly harder than the same load in a dumbbell.

REP Fitness sandbags are generally positioned at a more budget-friendly price point than premium brands like Rogue Fitness or Brute Force Training while still using comparable heavy-duty nylon materials. Brute Force bags have a strong reputation in the CrossFit community for their filler-bag system, while REP bags are popular for home gym and general functional-fitness setups.
