Rime

Rime's island is divided into five chapters, each with a unique visual theme ranging from sunlit coastal ruins to a dark interior tower and a final ascent. Every zone introduces different puzzle mechanics tied to light, shadows, and environmental manipulation. There is no combat in any of the five areas—the entire experience centers on exploration and puzzle-solving.

Rime was developed by Tequila Works, a Spanish studio, not by Thatgamecompany who made Journey. However, the two games are frequently compared due to their wordless storytelling, atmospheric exploration, and emotional tone. Tequila Works has acknowledged games like Journey and Ico as design influences.

The Switch version of Rime had noticeable frame rate drops at launch, particularly in the more graphically intensive outdoor areas. Subsequent patches improved performance, but the PC and PlayStation 4 versions remain the smoothest options. The Switch port is otherwise feature-complete with the same content.

A typical playthrough of Rime takes roughly six to eight hours depending on how much time you spend exploring and solving optional puzzles. Collectible hunting and finding hidden secrets can extend the runtime slightly. The game has no difficulty settings or New Game Plus mode.
