Ringed Boghaunter

description Ringed Boghaunter Overview

The Ringed Boghaunter, scientifically named Williamsonia lintneri, is a rare dragonfly species native to eastern North America. It is easily identified by its dark metallic body and the distinctive, bright orange rings that mark its abdomen. The species has highly specific habitat requirements, relying almost exclusively on cranberry bogs and sphagnum moss wetlands for breeding. Due to the loss of these sensitive habitats, the Ringed Boghaunter is considered endangered or threatened in several states.
