Rode NTG4+

description Rode NTG4+ Overview

The Rode NTG4+ is a directional condenser shotgun microphone designed for location sound, filmmaking, television production, and voice recording. It adds an internal rechargeable lithium battery, charged through USB, to the phantom powered design associated with the NTG4. Digital switching provides access to a high pass filter, a high frequency boost, and an attenuation pad, giving recordists controls for handling rumble, reduced clarity, and loud sources.

help Rode NTG4+ FAQ

Can the Rode NTG4+ run without phantom power?

Yes. Its internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides more than 150 hours of operation, while P48 phantom power is also supported.

What do the three buttons on the NTG4+ control?

They activate a 75 Hz high-pass filter, a high-frequency boost and a -10 dB pad. These controls help manage rumble, compensate for windshield losses and record louder sources.

Can the NTG4+ connect directly to a camera's 3.5 mm input?

The microphone itself has a balanced XLR output, not a 3.5 mm camera plug. A compatible XLR adapter, preamp or recorder is therefore needed for cameras without professional audio inputs.

Is the NTG4+ suitable outdoors without extra protection?

Its directional pattern is useful for outdoor dialogue, but the included foam windshield is mainly for light air movement. Strong wind normally requires a blimp and furry windshield, such as Rode's Blimp system.
