Rosita Missoni co-founded the iconic fashion house with her husband, Ottavio "Tai" Missoni, in the early 1950s. The couple combined their skills to build an empire out of a small knitwear workshop in Italy. Their partnership spanned both their personal and professional lives for decades.

She is credited with championing the brand's famous colorful knitwear, featuring vibrant zigzag patterns and distinctive textural stripes. She revolutionized the use of space-dyed yarns to create kaleidoscopic effects in high fashion. Her vision turned simple knitwear into a globally recognized luxury status symbol.

In the early days, Rosita focused on the fashion design and garment construction, while Ottavio handled the textile production and machinery. They established a family-run business model that eventually included their children in key roles. This division of labor allowed them to innovate rapidly on both the technical and aesthetic fronts.

In the late 1990s, Rosita stepped back from the main womenswear line to focus on the Missoni Home collection. She handed the creative direction of the main fashion lines over to her daughter, Angela Missoni. This transition allowed the brand to successfully navigate the modern fashion era while keeping the family legacy intact.
