Royal Gorge is a steep canyon carved by the Arkansas River near Cañon City, Colorado. The gorge is approximately 380 meters (1,250 feet) deep and features dramatic granite walls. Since 1929, it has been spanned by the Royal Gorge Bridge, a pedestrian suspension bridge that held the record for the highest bridge in the world for many decades. Today, the area operates as an amusement park and tourist attraction, offering visitors aerial views of the river below.
