description Ruy Faleiro Overview
Ruy Faleiro, also known as Rui Faleiro, was a Portuguese cosmographer and astrologer involved in planning the Spanish expedition led by Ferdinand Magellan. He contributed technical knowledge concerning navigation, longitude, and the location of the antimeridian dividing Spanish and Portuguese spheres under the Treaty of Tordesillas. Although originally expected to join the voyage, he did not sail when the fleet departed Spain in 1519.
