Rylo 360

Rylo was founded by former Apple engineers who introduced the Rylo 360 in 2017, but the company struggled to compete with massive players like GoPro and Insta360 in the 360-action cam market. Rylo eventually pivoted to focus on a mobile app called 'Cruise' for dashcam video editing. Consequently, production of the hardware was halted.

Many users have reported that the Rylo mobile app experiences frequent server connection issues, making it difficult to log in or activate new cameras. Without an active connection to Rylo's servers, the camera's defining software-based stabilization and reframing features become inaccessible. It is highly recommended to research current software functionality before purchasing a used Rylo.

The Rylo 360 captures spherical video at a resolution of 5.8K at 30 frames per second. This high resolution is necessary because, when the user uses the app to 'reframe' the 360-degree footage into a standard 16:9 video, they still get a crisp, high-definition final output. It also captures 6K panoramic photos.

The physical camera captures the raw 360-degree video, but its incredibly smooth stabilization relies entirely on the proprietary algorithms in the Rylo mobile app. The app allows you to choose conventional camera angles and apply horizon leveling after you have finished recording. The camera itself handles the capture, while the app handles the heavy processing.
