description Saddled snake eel Overview
The saddled snake eel (Leiuranus semicinctus) is a marine eel in the family Ophichthidae. It is named for the saddle-like dark markings that interrupt its otherwise elongated body. The species occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific and is associated with shallow coastal habitats, including coral reefs and sandy areas near reefs. Like many snake eels, it can spend much of its time partly or completely buried in loose sediment, leaving mainly the head exposed.
