Sagamihara is a city in Kanagawa Prefecture in the Kanto region of Japan. It lies inland west of Tokyo and combines dense urban districts with forested and mountainous areas in its western and northern parts. Sagamihara became a government-designated city in 2010 and is divided into three wards, Midori, Chuo, and Minami. Its geography distinguishes it from coastal cities in Kanagawa and gives the municipality both metropolitan and rural characteristics.
