Sil

Sil sends the player into Angband to reach 1000 feet and steal a Silmaril from Morgoth's crown. Unlike many Angband variants, the game is compact and focused on a single First Age Tolkien mission.

Sil is shorter, more tactical, and more focused on stealth, light, sound, and positioning than on endless loot progression. It replaces many traditional fantasy RPG assumptions with skills like Song, Smithing, Will, and Perception.

Stealth is a fully viable way to survive because the game rewards avoiding fights, managing noise, and choosing when to engage. That is very different from a pure kill-everything dungeon crawl.

Sil-Q is a later community fork of Sil that continues balance and quality-of-life development. Players often mention it when looking for a maintained version of the Tolkien-themed Angband variant.
