description Silent Reading Overview
Written by Priest under the Chinese title Mo Du, Silent Reading combines a contemporary urban crime story with the relationship between police captain Luo Wenzhou and Fei Du, a wealthy young man with a complicated past. Police investigation and psychological interpretation are central to the narrative, as cases expose links between present violence and earlier events. The two central characters approach those questions from markedly different positions. The novel belongs to danmei, Chinese fiction centered on romantic relationships between men, while giving substantial space to its mystery plots.
Their developing connection therefore sits alongside investigations rather than replacing them. Interconnected cases build a wider picture of motives and personal histories, including unresolved matters from the past. Silent Reading suits readers who want an extended crime narrative with a central male romance and attention to the emotional consequences of investigation.
