description Simon Newcomb Overview

Simon Newcomb (1835-1909) was a Canadian-American astronomer and mathematician whose work helped establish precise numerical standards for nineteenth-century astronomy. He held positions connected with the U.S. Nautical Almanac Office and the U.S. Naval Observatory, where he studied planetary motion and produced mathematical tables for the positions of solar-system bodies.
