Sinergy - To Hell and Back

The 1999 debut album features intense guitar work by Children of Bodom frontman Alexi Laiho and In Flames guitarist Jesper Strömblad. Their dual-guitar harmonies and blistering solos defined the melodic death metal and power metal sound of the record. The band was essentially a supergroup drawing from the top tiers of the late 90s Scandinavian metal scene.

The album is a fast-paced fusion of neoclassical power metal and aggressive melodic death metal. Vocalist Kimberly Goss delivers soaring, theatrical vocals over the band's classically influenced riffs and rapid double-kick drumming. It is widely considered a landmark release for bridging the gap between European power metal and Finnish extreme metal.

Sinergy was formed in the late 1990s by vocalist Kimberly Goss and guitarist Alexi Laiho, shortly after Laiho's work with Children of Bodom began gaining international traction. They released "To Hell and Back" as their debut studio album in 1999 under the Nuclear Blast record label. The band remained active until their unofficial disbandment in the mid-2000s.

Beyond Laiho and Goss, the supergroup featured notable metal musicians from the European scene, including bassist Sharlee D'Angelo of Arch Enemy. Later iterations of the band included future Children of Bodom members Roope Latvala on guitar and Jaska Raatikainen on drums. This deep roster of talent made them highly revered in the underground metal community.
