Singapore Sling (Alternative)

This version reduces the cherry liqueur—traditionally Cherry Heering or similar—and emphasizes fresh pineapple juice and lime juice for brightness. The result is a less syrupy, more tart and balanced cocktail while retaining the gin base and tropical character of the classic.

A London Dry gin such as Tanqueray or Beefeater provides the juniper-forward backbone needed to stand up to the pineapple and citrus without being overpowered. Avoid softer or overly floral gins, as they can get lost when combined with the tropical fruit components.

Freshly pressed pineapple juice makes a significant difference in this variation because it contributes natural enzymes and a vibrant acidity that bottled versions lack. If fresh pineapple is unavailable, look for high-quality, not-from-concentrate refrigerated juice rather than shelf-stable cans.

Most modern adaptations retain a small measure of Benedictine for its herbal complexity, even when dialing back overall sweetness. The key is using a lighter pour than the traditional recipe calls for so the herbal notes complement rather than weigh down the drink.
