description Singhasari Kingdom Overview
Singhasari was a Hindu-Buddhist kingdom based in eastern Java from 1222 until 1292. It was founded after Ken Arok defeated the kingdom of Kediri, and its last major ruler, Kertanegara, pursued an expansionist policy that included influence in Bali and an expedition toward Sumatra. Singhasari ended after a rebellion led by Jayakatwang, but its political legacy continued through Majapahit, founded by Kertanegara's son-in-law Raden Wijaya.
