Skadi is a jötunn (giantess) and goddess in Norse mythology associated with winter, skiing, bowhunting, and mountains. After the Aesir killed her father, the giant Thiazi, she arrived at Asgard seeking compensation and was offered the choice of a husband from among the gods by selecting based only on their feet. She chose Njord, the sea god, but their marriage was unsuccessful due to incompatible preferences - Skadi favored the mountain wilderness while Njord preferred the sea and coast.
