Skagafjörður is a fjord and surrounding region in northern Iceland, lying between the Skagi Peninsula and the Tröllaskagi mountains. The fjord is about 40 kilometres long and 15 kilometres wide, with the town of Sauðárkrókur among the area’s settlements. The district is associated with agriculture, especially dairy and sheep farming, and with the breeding and training of Icelandic horses. Hólar, a former episcopal seat, is one of its principal historical sites.
