Slup Watermill

The Slup Watermill is located in the village of Slup in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic, situated on the Kyjovka River. It currently operates as a museum under the management of the Technical Museum in Brno and is open to visitors seasonally, typically from spring through autumn, featuring exhibits on milling history and the building's Renaissance architecture.

The Slup Watermill dates back to the 16th century, with its current Renaissance structure representing one of the best-preserved historic mill buildings in Central Europe. The building underwent various modifications over the centuries but retains its essential Renaissance character, and it was designated a Czech national cultural monument due to its architectural and technical-historical significance.

The Slup Watermill is no longer used for commercial milling but has been preserved and restored as a museum space operated by the Technical Museum in Brno. The interior houses historical milling machinery and educational exhibits about traditional grain processing, and the building's original millrace and water channel system are still visible as part of the site's historical interpretation.

The Slup Watermill is situated in South Moravia, a region known for its wine production, and is relatively close to the historic town of Znojmo and the Podyjí National Park. The area features numerous wine cellars, cycling routes through the Moravian countryside, and other historic technical monuments, making the watermill a worthwhile stop on a broader cultural and scenic tour of the region.
