What problem did Einstein solve with special relativity in 1905?

Einstein explained how the laws of physics can stay the same for observers moving at constant velocity while the speed of light remains fixed. His 1905 paper removed the need for the luminiferous ether used in older physics.

Why does special relativity say simultaneity is relative?

Two events that seem simultaneous to one observer may not be simultaneous to another observer moving relative to the first. This follows from the constant light speed value of about 299,792,458 meters per second.

What is time dilation in special relativity?

Time dilation means a moving clock is measured to tick slower by an observer who is not moving with it. The effect becomes large only at speeds close to light speed, which is why it is not obvious in everyday travel.

Does special relativity include gravity?

No. Special relativity applies to inertial motion without gravity, while Einstein's general relativity from 1915 treats gravity as spacetime curvature.
