help Spruce Smart Irrigation System FAQ
Does Spruce replace irrigation valves or the irrigation controller?
Spruce is a Wi-Fi irrigation controller that manages existing zone valves; it does not replace every buried valve. Check the number of zones and the wiring type before installation.
How does Spruce adjust watering after rain?
Spruce uses the controller's latitude and longitude together with weather data to adjust connected schedules. Its support documentation says Spruce moved from Dark Sky to Apple WeatherKit in December 2022, and Weather Watch thresholds can delay watering. Does the Spruce irrigation system require soil sensors?
No, Spruce can run weather-based connected schedules without soil sensors. Optional Spruce sensors add a sensor mode in which a zone waters only when measured soil moisture falls below a selected threshold. Can I control Spruce from my phone?
Yes, Spruce provides an app through Google Play and the Apple App Store, plus access through app.spruceirrigation.com. It needs account and Wi-Fi access, so it is not simply a standalone local timer. [Spruce setup guide](https://support.spruceirrigation.com/knowledge-base/spruce-setup-overview/)
