St. Jakob-Park

St. Jakob-Park is Switzerland's largest football stadium, with a capacity of approximately 38,500 for domestic league matches. The capacity can be adjusted for different configurations, including for UEFA competition requirements. The stadium has served as the home of FC Basel since it opened in 2001.

St. Jakob-Park was designed by the Basel-based architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron, who later designed the Beijing National Stadium (the Bird's Nest) for the 2008 Olympics. Herzog & de Meuron, both Pritzker Prize laureates, are among Switzerland's most internationally acclaimed architects. The stadium's distinctive façade features translucent panels that are illuminated at night.

St. Jakob-Park was a primary venue for UEFA Euro 2008, co-hosted by Switzerland and Austria, hosting group stage matches as well as knockout-round games. The stadium was the largest Swiss venue used in the tournament. It hosted matches including a quarterfinal during the competition.

FC Basel, one of Switzerland's most successful and historic football clubs, has called St. Jakob-Park home since the stadium opened in 2001. FC Basel has dominated Swiss football in the 21st century, winning numerous Swiss Super League titles during their tenure at the venue. The club has also competed regularly in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League at St. Jakob-Park, including notable European knockout-stage campaigns.
