Stanford Jay Shaw (1930-2006) was an American historian whose work focused on the Ottoman Empire, Turkey, Ottoman Egypt, and the history of Turkish Jews. He taught at Harvard from 1958 to 1968 and was a professor of Turkish history at UCLA from 1968 until his retirement in 1992, later returning to teach at UCLA and serving at Bilkent University. With Ezel Kural Shaw, he wrote the two-volume History of the Ottoman Empire and Modern Turkey, published by Cambridge University Press in 1976-1977.
