description Stephen's Sausage Roll Overview

Stephen's Sausage Roll is a 2016 independent puzzle video game designed by Stephen Lavelle, also known as increpare. Players move a character around compact grid-based levels, using a fork to roll sausages over grills until every side is cooked without burning them or making the puzzle unsolvable. Its Sokoban-like rules produce demanding spatial problems centered on movement order, positioning, and manipulation of elongated objects.

insights Ranking position

Stephen's Sausage Roll ranks #1 of 507 in the Puzzle Game ranking, ahead of Lemmings.

help Stephen's Sausage Roll FAQ

What exactly must you do to each sausage in Stephen's Sausage Roll?

Every sausage has four grillable side faces, and each must touch a grill exactly once. Burning a side twice, losing a sausage, or trapping the chef generally forces a restart.

Why does the chef carry a fork that cannot be put away?

The fork extends the character's push action and changes which objects can be moved from a given position. Because the chef and fork rotate together, orientation becomes as important as location.

Is Stephen's Sausage Roll basically Sokoban with food?

It shares Sokoban's irreversible pushing and compact spatial planning, but sausages occupy two tiles and can roll as well as slide. Grills also transform sausage surfaces, creating a state-tracking problem absent from ordinary crate-pushing puzzles.

Who made Stephen's Sausage Roll, and where was it released?

Independent developer Stephen Lavelle, also known for English Country Tune, created the game. It was released in 2016 for Windows, macOS, and Linux through PC storefronts including Steam.
