Storioni Trio

The ensemble consists of violinist Bart van de Roer, cellist Pieter Wispelwey (in earlier years), and pianist Nikolai Demidenko (also in earlier configurations), though the personnel has changed over its decades-long career. The group takes its name from the 18th-century Cremonese luthier Lorenzo Storioni, whose instruments the players have used.

Their discography spans the core Classical and Romantic piano-trio literature—Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, and Dvořák—as well as less frequently performed works by composers such as Mendelssohn and Saint-Saëns. They have also championed contemporary Dutch chamber music.

The trio was founded in 1986 in the Netherlands and quickly established itself on the European festival circuit. Since then it has toured internationally and recorded for labels including Challenge Classics and Philips.

The ensemble has released recordings on several labels, most notably Challenge Classics and Philips. Their Beethoven piano-trio cycle in particular received critical acclaim across multiple volumes.
