description Straight Shooting Overview
Straight Shooting is a 1917 American silent Western directed by John Ford and starring Harry Carey as the recurring frontier character Cheyenne Harry. The story concerns a range conflict in which a cattleman attempts to drive homesteaders from their land by controlling access to water, while Harry changes allegiance after witnessing the consequences. Initially conceived on a shorter scale and expanded into a feature, it is Ford's earliest complete surviving feature-length film and an early example of his treatment of frontier communities.
