Stuart Berg Flexner was an American lexicographer and writer whose work concentrated on slang, usage, and general American English. He co-edited the first edition of the Dictionary of American Slang with Harold Wentworth, published in 1960, and later served as editor in chief of the Random House Dictionary of the English Language, Second Edition, published in 1987. His books were intended for readers interested in both standard vocabulary and informal American speech.
