Sweethearts

description Sweethearts Overview

Sweethearts is an American operetta with music by Victor Herbert and a libretto and lyrics by Harry B. Smith, Fred de Gresac, and Robert B. Smith. It premiered in Baltimore in 1913 before moving to Broadway, where it played at the New Amsterdam and Liberty theatres.

Set partly in the fictional kingdom of Zilania, the romantic story uses mistaken identity, royal succession, and political intrigue within the conventions of early twentieth-century musical theater.
