Instead, he became being friends with the demons, gaining a great attachment to their existence. One day, Kantarou was told about the strongest demon, the one known as the ogre-eating Tengu. Amazed by the news of his strength, Kantarou vowed to find this demon who was far stronger than any other, deciding to call him Haruka when he did so.

Since this time, Kantarou searched far and wide for the ogre-eating Tengu with no luck, making his living by becoming a folklore writer and demon-buster.

help Tactics FAQ

Who is Ichinomiya Kantarou in Tactics?

Kantarou is a young man who has been able to see demons since childhood. Because other people isolated and bullied him for that ability, he chose to befriend demons and became strongly attached to their world.

Why does Kantarou become friends with demons?

His supernatural sight made him an outsider among humans, so demon companions offered acceptance instead of fear. That history explains why he treats demons as individuals rather than simply as monsters to destroy.

What demon is Kantarou searching for in Tactics?

Kantarou is told about the strongest demon, a figure connected to the supernatural investigations at the center of the series. His search brings him into contact with demon folklore, exorcists, and human clients who need unusual problems solved.

Is Tactics a modern detective anime or a historical supernatural story?

It combines detective-style cases with Japanese folklore and supernatural investigations. Kantarou works with demons and encounters exorcism traditions, so the series is better described as a historical fantasy mystery than a realistic police drama.
