Talking Heads - Remain in Light

Remain in Light was co-produced by Brian Eno alongside the four members of Talking Heads, marking his fourth and final album with the band. Eno's influence is central to the album's dense, layered sound and its use of extensive overdubbing and polyrhythmic grooves inspired by Afrobeat artists like Fela Kuti.

'Once in a Lifetime' is the most iconic track, driven by David Byrne's spoken-word vocals and Jerry Harrison's synthesizer work. Its music video, featuring Byrne in a suit convulsing and dancing against a white background, became one of the most memorable early MTV staples.

Adrian Belew contributed guitar on Remain in Light, notably performing the solo on 'The Great Curve,' and he toured with the band during the album's promotional cycle. The sessions also featured Bernie Worrell of Parliament-Funkadelic on keyboards and Robert Fripp of King David on guitar for the track 'Houses in Motion.'

Remain in Light was released on Sire Records in October 1980, produced by Brian Eno. The album reached number 19 on the Billboard 200 and has appeared on virtually every major greatest-albums-of-all-time list, including Rolling Stone's 2020 update where it ranked in the top 30.
