The Tasman Bridge is a road bridge over the Derwent River in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. It opened in 1964 and connected Hobart's eastern shore with the city and western suburbs, carrying traffic across the river. In January 1975, the bulk carrier Lake Illawarra struck the bridge's supports, causing part of the roadway to collapse and killing 12 people. The damaged crossing was rebuilt and reopened in 1977.
