help Tetris Attack FAQ

Why is Tetris Attack not really a Tetris game?

Tetris Attack uses rising panels and match-three swapping, not falling tetrominoes. The Japanese original is Panel de Pon, and the Tetris name was added for the international release.

Why are Yoshi characters in Tetris Attack?

The international SNES version replaced Panel de Pon's fairy cast with characters from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. That is why Yoshi, Bowser, and other Mario-world elements appear in a game whose mechanics came from a different Japanese release.

What modes does Tetris Attack have?

It includes modes such as Endless, Time Trial, Stage Clear, Puzzle, and versus play. The core mechanic is swapping adjacent panels to make horizontal or vertical matches of three or more.

What later games continued the Tetris Attack style?

The mechanics continued under the Puzzle League name. Pokemon Puzzle League on Nintendo 64 and Planet Puzzle League on Nintendo DS are later relatives of the same design.
