The Blue Hammer is a 1976 detective novel by Ross Macdonald and the final completed novel featuring California private investigator Lew Archer. Archer is hired to recover a stolen painting attributed to a reclusive artist, but questions about its ownership and authenticity lead him into a history of concealed relationships, violence, and family secrets. The case also becomes unusually personal as Archer develops an emotional attachment to a woman connected with the investigation.
