The Dark Defiles

The Dark Defiles is a fantasy novel by British author Richard K. Morgan, published in 2014 as the concluding volume of the A Land Fit for Heroes trilogy, following "The Steel Remains" (2008) and "The Cold Commands" (2011). The novel continues the interwoven stories of three protagonists: Ringil Eskiath, a cynical veteran swordsman; Egar Dragonbane, a Majak steppe clansman; and Archeth, the biracial daughter of a human lord and a vanished alien race called the Kiriath. Characterized by explicit violence, frank sexuality, and a grim worldview typical of the grimdark fantasy subgenre, the trilogy concludes with revelations about the true nature of the series' cosmic entities.
