The Daves I Know

'The Daves I Know' is a comedy sketch and musical number from The Kids in the Hall, the Canadian sketch comedy troupe. It was written by and stars Bruce McCulloch, who walks through a city singing an acoustic guitar song about the various men named Dave he knows.

Bruce McCulloch performs the sketch, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar while introducing the audience to a series of different men named Dave. The other Kids in the Hall members—Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson—appear as various Daves throughout the piece.

The sketch combines deadpan musical performance with absurd character work, as McCulloch cheerfully describes Daves ranging from likable friends to people he clearly cannot stand. The ironic juxtaposition of the gentle acoustic folk song format with increasingly bizarre characterizations became a signature style of The Kids in the Hall.
