The Librarians

While it is not strictly necessary, the TNT television series acts as a direct continuation of the original television film trilogy starring Noah Wyle. Wyle reprises his role as Flynn Carsen in the show, though he steps back to let a new team of Librarians take the lead. The movies establish the lore of the Library and the role of the Librarian.

Rebecca Romijn plays Colonel Eve Baird, a NATO counter-terrorism operative who becomes the Guardian to the new Librarians. Her character is tasked with protecting the team from physical threats during their magical artifact retrieval missions. Romijn is well-known for her previous roles as Mystique in the X-Men film franchise.

The series was developed for television by John Rogers, who is also known for creating the hit show Leverage. The Librarians premiered on TNT in 2014 and successfully expanded the fantasy universe for four seasons. Dean Devlin, who produced the original films, also served as an executive producer on the show.

TNT canceled The Librarians in 2018 just before the season 4 finale aired, much to the disappointment of fans. The network was shifting its programming strategy to focus on edgier, gritty dramas rather than lighthearted fantasy adventure shows. Executive producer Dean Devlin actively tried to find a new network or streaming platform to save the series, but it never came to fruition.
