Thor: Ragnarok Screenplay

Taika Waititi directed Thor: Ragnarok, bringing a distinctly comedic sensibility that dramatically shifted the tone of the Thor franchise from the Shakespearean seriousness of Kenneth Branagh's Thor (2011) and Alan Taylor's Thor: The Dark World (2013). Waititi also appears in the film as the motion-capture character Korg, a gladiator made of rocks who befriends Thor. The 2017 film grossed over $850 million worldwide and revitalized Chris Hemsworth's portrayal of the character.

Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" is prominently featured during Thor's battle sequences, particularly in the thrilling Bifrost bridge fight scene on Asgard. The use of the classic 1970 track became one of the most memorable musical choices in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and was also featured in the film's marketing trailers. It perfectly complemented the screenplay's more adventurous, rock-and-roll tone compared to previous Thor films.

Cate Blanchett plays Hela, the Goddess of Death and Thor's previously unknown older sister, who returns from exile to claim the throne of Asgard. Blanchett's portrayal made Hela the first major female villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The screenplay positions Hela's destructive power as the catalyst for the prophesied event known as Ragnarok, the destruction of Asgard.

Thor: Ragnarok ends with Thor, Loki, and the surviving Asgardian refugees aboard a spacecraft heading toward Earth, which directly sets up the opening scene of Avengers: Infinity War (2018). The mid-credits scene shows their ship encountering a massive vessel belonging to Thanos, establishing the threat that drives Infinity War's plot. Additionally, Hulk's extended time on Sakaar explains his absence from the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016).
