Torres del Paine

Torres del Paine National Park is located in the southern region of Chilean Patagonia. It is situated in the Ultima Esperanza Province and covers an area of over 240,000 hectares. It is consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful national parks in South America.

The "Torres del Paine" (Towers of Paine) refer to three distinct, massive granite peaks known as Torres d'Agostini, Torres Central, and Torres Monzino. They were sculpted by glacial ice over millions of years and soar dramatically into the sky. The highest point of these towers reaches approximately 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) above sea level.

The W Trek is the most famous hiking route in the national park, typically taking 3 to 5 days to complete. It gets its name from the shape of the trail on a map, which connects three main valleys: Ascencio, Francés, and Grey. The trek allows hikers to witness the base of the granite towers and the stunning Grey Glacier.

The park is home to a wide variety of Patagonian wildlife, including herds of wild guanacos, which are closely related to llamas. Visitors also frequently spot Darwin's rheas, Andean condors, and the elusive, endangered puma. Foxes and the large, flightless rhea birds are also common sights across the park's steppe and forests.
