Touhou: Imperishable Night

Imperishable Night lets players select from four predetermined pairs of characters, such as Reimu and Yukari or Marisa and Alice, each consisting of a human and a yokai. Players switch between the two characters in real time, and each character has a different shot type and grazing behavior.

The story revolves around the moon being replaced by a fake moon that never sets, creating an unnaturally long night in Gensokyo. The protagonists must identify and confront the culprits before dawn by traveling through stages such as the Bamboo Forest of the Lost.

The game was created solely by Jun'ya Ota, known by his pen name ZUN, who handled the programming, art, music, and design. It was released in 2004 as the eighth main entry in the Touhou Project series.

Imperishable Night introduced hidden bonus spell card patterns called Last Words, which are extremely difficult attack sequences unlocked by meeting specific gameplay conditions. Each Last Word serves as the game's ultimate challenge and features unique, visually striking bullet patterns.
