Tricker's Bourton Country Shoe

Tricker's has been making shoes in Northampton, England since 1829, with the Bourton model produced since 1938. The factory remains one of the longest-operating shoemakers in Northampton, a city historically central to British footwear manufacturing.

The Goodyear welt process stitches a leather strip (the welt) to the upper and insole, then attaches the sole to the welt rather than directly to the upper. This allows the sole to be resoled repeatedly without damaging the shoe's structure, which is why Tricker's has used this method for decades.

The Bourton is typically built on Tricker's Country last, which features a wider, more rounded toe box than their dress shoe lasts. This accommodates the shoe's brogue detailing and makes it suitable for outdoor country wear, consistent with its heritage design since 1938.

Regular application of shoe cream and polish keeps the leather supple, while cedar shoe trees help maintain the shape of the Goodyear welted construction. Given the Bourton's country heritage, many owners also treat the leather with a water-resistant dressing like Saphir Dubbin to protect against wet conditions.
